Women's Work Songs, 2014
Milgi’s, Cardiff, for Made in Roath festival
Frankie Armstrong led a workshop/closed performance in which a group of women (and two men) simulated the rhythms and sounds of Hebridean waulking songs, beating their gestures into playdough. This forms part of my ongoing research into the gestures and physicality of work, particularly jobs that work songs evolved to enable; to help synchronise communal activity and keep a steady rhythm. See Songs of Salt for another example.
